Every common Gibbed error, solved
Compiled from 76 GitHub issues and 36 community threads. Find your error message below.
Almost every Gibbed problem is one of two kinds: the editor itself won’t run, or a save won’t load or won’t stick. Match your exact symptom to the right fix below — guessing wastes the most time, so start by figuring out which bucket you’re in.
Which error do you have?
| Symptom | Go to |
|---|---|
| Editor won’t launch / “stopped working” / no .exe | Won’t open |
| Failed to load save: reencode mismatch | reencode mismatch |
| invalid SHA1 hash (console save) | invalid SHA1 hash |
| Edits save in Gibbed but the game reverts them | Changes don’t save |
| Backpack keeps resetting to ~39 slots | Backpack resets |
| LZO / EndOfStream on a Pre-Sequel save | Pre-Sequel errors |
reencode mismatch
The #1 reported issue (GitHub issue #21 and six duplicates). Outdated build, the Community Patch, or a corrupted download — three causes, three fixes.
invalid SHA1 hashEncrypted console save
PS3 / PS4 / Vita / Switch saves are encrypted. Decrypt before Gibbed, re-encrypt after — or, for a PC save, just fix the platform dropdown.
Gibbed has stopped workingEditor won't launch
Usually the “Source code” archive instead of the release ZIP. Also: extract everything, repair .NET Framework 4.5+, run as administrator.
Changes don't stick in gameGame reverts your edits
Two problems in one: the edit never wrote (game open, read-only, Steam Cloud), or it wrote and the sanity check (#77) undid it. Find out which.
LZO decompression failurePre-Sequel load errors
Same root causes as BL2: corrupted download, encrypted console save, or the wrong editor — the Pre-Sequel needs its own bloz_ build (1.0.25).
Backpack resets to 39 slotsBackpack size resets
Gearbox patched the backpack-size exploit. Raise it via SDUs (12 + 3 × SDU) instead — but the legit max (~39) is the ceiling.
Random “save repair tools” from file-sharing sites are the main malware vector around Gibbed. None of the errors above ever require extra software beyond the official editor and (for consoles) a known resign tool.
